For decades, implant-supported fixed complete dentures have been used successfully
to restore the masticatory system of edentulous patients.

Multiple combinations of materials are available for the fabrication of these prostheses,
each with different clinical indications and physical properties.
3
Fixed complete dentures have a long history of use
1
and have been reported to protect the bone-to-implant interface because of the shock-absorbing
properties of the acrylic resin covering the framework.

Nevertheless, the acrylic resin component of these prostheses is also associated
with their most common technical complications, including wear, fracture of the acrylic
resin matrix teeth, and poor esthetics.

The acrylic resin matrix has been described as the weak link in this prosthesis
3
as its performance is affected by the masticatory dynamics and the shape and adequate
thickness of the restorative material.

The following article describes a straightforward method of creating conservative
screw access for implant-supported fixed complete dentures by using a modified tapered
abutment analog, an apical drill, precut laboratory cutter shanks, and a fine-grit,
torpedo-shaped tungsten carbide cutter. To read this article in full you will need to make a payment
