The evaluation of crestal bone loss to assess implant success rate with radiographs and/or computerized tomography scans has been well described.1 After implant placement and at subsequent recall appointments, clinicians typically make an intraoral periapical radiograph. However, at each appointment, there are changes in the radiographic image.2,3 Conventionally, the distance between the first screw thread to the top of the alveolar crest in the parallel periapical radiograph is measured to assess crestal bone changes.
